Cecelia Ann Halweg

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend, Cecelia A. Halweg, 94 of La Crosse and formerly of Cresco, IA died on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at the Bethany-Riverside Nursing Facility. She was born October 23, 1922 in Le Roy, Minnesota to John and Adela (Matura) Zotika. She moved with her family to a farm near Lime Springs, IA where she met her future husband Donald “Bud” Halweg and they later married on February 21, 1944 in Cresco, IA. She later moved to the La Crosse area to be closer to her daughter.

Cecelia had worked as a cook for various restaurants in Cresco and retired from her favorite, The Tower Club. Her passions in life were her family, playing cards, and baking. She also loved to dance and party.

Cecelia is survived by two children; Carol (David “Bim”) Dunt of Brownsville, MN and Don (Holly) Halweg of Eagle, ID; grandchildren, Sherri (Mick) Tlusty of Colorado Springs, CO, Robert Aberg of Madison,WI, Richard (Kathy) Aberg of Freemont, OH, John Dunt of Mankato, MN, Elizabeth (Kirk) Thorson of Anamosa, IA, Andrew Dunt of La Crosse and Nicholas Halweg of Eagle, ID; great-grandchildren, Paige Thorson, Caleb Thorson, Chelsea Aberg and Sydney Aberg; great-great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Thorson along with nieces, nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald “Bud” Halweg in 1974; parents; two brothers, John and Otto Zotika and a sister, Ella Slifka.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 1 ^st at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 111 S. Oak Street, La Crescent with David “Bim” Dunt officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be held at a later date in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Cresco, IA. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to New Horizon’s Shelter for Battered Women.
