Leona Amundson

Leona (Kensmoe) Amundson, 87 of La Crosse/Hayward, Wis., died on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Mulder Health Care in West Salem. She was born in Whitehall, Wis., on August 23, 1929 to Otto and Clara (Loga) Kensmoe. On May 12, 1951 she married Richard D. Amundson in La Crosse. He preceded her in death on October 10, 1992.

Leona was named the 1975-1976 Mrs. Oktoberfest.   She was a faithful member of English Lutheran Church, La Crosse and a Duplicate Bridge Life Master. She and her husband Dick were second generation owners of the Village Bake Shop in La Crosse. Leona’s greatest joy in life was the time spent with family and friends. The family would like to thank the staff at Mulder Heath Care for compassion they showed Leona during her stay.

She is survived by her three daughters; Christine (Bill) Latham of Onalaska, Wis., Susan (Gary) Iverson of Onalaska, Paula (Ron) Reagan of Bartlett, IL., seven grandchildren; Benjamin, Erin, Elizabeth, Adam, Alex, Sean and Jack; seven great grandchildren; Jake, Reese, Max, Evan, Jackson, Carson and Kyla. In addition to her husband Dick, she was preceded in death by her nine brothers and sisters.

Memorial services will be held at 11am on Friday, February 17, 2017 at English Lutheran Church, La Crosse. Pastor Roger Grow will officiate. Private family burial will follow in the Onalaska City Cemetery. Friends may call on the family at the church Friday morning from 10am until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be donated in Leona’s memory.
