Burr Udell Wenzel, 90, of La Crosse, died on Friday, February 10, 2017 at the Tomah Veteran’s Administration Medical Center. He was born on May 13, 1926 in La Crosse to Charles and Elsee (Weder) Wenzel. Burr graduated from Logan High School and served with the US Navy during WWII. He married Shirley Ann Sinniger on September 27, 1952. In 1960 they adopted their first child, a son, Patrick John. In 1962 they adopted their second son, Mark David, and in 1963 another adopted child, Jean Marie, a daughter, joined their family. In 1970, they were blessed with their fourth child, Kevin Charles, a third son.
Burr worked for 30 years in maintenance at Wells Fargo. He also worked for La Crosse Tent and Awning. Burr was a Boy Scout leader, and an active member at St. Thomas More Catholic Church where he served on several boards and helped out with a lot of repairs. Burr enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and watching the birds. He was an avid Packer fan and enjoyed going up to the cottage on Big Lake.
He is survived by four children, Patrick (Theresa) Wenzel of La Crosse, Mark (Claire) Wenzel of Melrose, Jean Wenzel of Seattle, and Kevin Wenzel of Bloomington, IN, and a sister-in-law Dorothy Wenzel of Holmen. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley in 2006.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 10:30 AM at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish, 2006 Weston Street. Rev. Brian D. Konopa will officiate. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 AM until the time of services.Wednesday, February 15, 2017
