Reuben G. Lorenz, 95, of La Crosse, passed away on Wednesday, February 1 st , 2017 at his home. He was born on January 25, 1922 to Theodore and Mary (Starch) Lorenz, the youngest of seven sons. He grew up in Chipmunk Coulee. Reuben served with the US Army 12 th Armored Division during WWII. He was in the medical division of the 92 nd Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron where he was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic achievement, having saved two severely wounded soldiers while under fire during a battle. Reuben married the love of his life, Helen Brandt, on July 24, 1946. They were married for 53 years until Helen died in 1999. Reuben owned Lorenz Implement Co., selling Allis Chalmers tractors and machinery until he retired. He enjoyed “the Land”, ten acres on the Black River near Melrose, and loved to grow vegetables, flowers, and fishing.
He is survived by a son Gary of Monona, WI and a daughter Debra of Madison. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen and a son Dennis in 1953.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Mt. Calvary Ev. Lutheran Church. Pastor Robert Wassermann will officiate. Friends may call at the Church on Saturday from 9:30 AM until the time of services. Military Honors by the Stoddard American Legion Post 315 and burial in Chipmunk Coulee Cemetery will follow services.Saturday, February 4, 2017
