Richard J. “Dick” Poellinger, 90, of La Crescent, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2017, at the Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.
Dick was born December 17, 1926, in Sheboygan, Wis., to John T. and Marie (Oestreicher) Poellinger. He was a graduate of Aquinas High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree in History and Philosophy from Loras College in 1952. On October 3, 1959, he married Marjorie L. Foehser at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in La Crosse. Marge preceded him in death on June 5, 2009.
Dick worked for Blatz Brewing Co. for several years until 1958 when he began working for his brother, John, at Poellinger Plastering until his retirement.
Dick was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of Gittens-Leidel American Legion Post 595 of La Crescent. He held memberships in the Carpenter’s Union and the Elks Club in La Crosse for many years and was a long-time, active member of Crucifixion Parish in La Crescent. Dick’s favorite free-time activity was spending time in his garden. He was an avid and very talented gardener who loved to share the produce that he grew with family, neighbors, and those in need.
Dick is survived by his children, Jim Poellinger of La Crescent and Ranee (Chris) Andersen of La Crosse; his granddaughter, Stephanie Andersen; a sister-in-law, Rosemary Poellinger of La Crosse; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Marge, he was preceded in death by his brother, John; and two sisters, Mary Poellinger and Pat Peterson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 2 nd , at the Church of the Crucifixion in La Crescent. Rev. Gregory Havel will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Crucifixion Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 111 So. Oak St., La Crescent and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass on Thursday at the church.
