Beverly Ann Engelien, 78, of Onalaska, died on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Gundersen Health System of La Crosse. She was born on December 23, 1938 in La Crosse Wisconsin to Harold and Anna (Skramstad) Erickson. She attended Franklin Elementary and Logan High School and graduated in1956. She then attended Wisconsin State College – La Crosse from 1956-60 where she studied secondary education, math, and music. She worked at First Federal 1960 through 1989 off and on between the birth of her children. She was married August 23, 1958 to Donald F Meyer, they were later divorced. She married Robert M. Engelien on July 17, 1987 and he preceded her in death on May 4, 2016.
She is survived by her two children Mark (Susan Schooff) Meyer and step-grandson Jack of Middleton, Wisconsin and Cindy (Chris) Zimmerman and grandchildren Tedon and Jaiden of Chatfield, Minnesota. Step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Sharon (Doug) Rethmeyer, Bryan Greig, Brady Greig, and Kyle (Emilee) Greig of Spring Hill, Kansas, Karen Engelien and Amanda Engelien of Onalaska, Wisconsin, Sue (Dan) Malhum, Emily (Keaton) Hildreth and their children Carson and Kadrian, David Mahlum, Joshua (Valerie) Mahlum, Hannah Mahlum all from Iowa, Mary (Paul )Hoeft-Leithold, Taylor Hoeft, Madison Hoeft, Chloe Leithold, Faith Leithold, Tessa Leithold, Steve Leithold of Onalaska, Wisconsin, Cindy (Todd) Johnson, Mackenzie Johnson, Alex Johnson, Ethan Johnson of Olathe, Kansas, great nephew and niece Aaron (Kelly) Hillyer and Monica (Barry) Loging.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter Suzanne in 1962, her parents Anna and Harold Erickson, sister Lois Elaine Hillyer and nephew Kenneth (Carol) Hillyer.
She also took pride in her family and all her grandchildren. Beverly was extremely proud of her Norwegian heritage. She also enjoyed the friendship of her Northside high school friends, her red hat group, and the “nile” group. She will be especially missed by her unofficial sister Jean Olson of Holmen. She enjoyed music of all kinds, especially violin, choir, and jazz club. Beverly was also an engaged collector of many antiques, dishes, and likenesses of Snoopy.
Beverly spent her final days at the Onalaska Care Center where she received top-notch and loving care from her nurses and staff.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 23, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1010 Sill St., La Crosse. Pastor Erik Feig will officiate. Burial will follow in the Onalaska City Cemetery. Friends may call on the family Monday morning at the church from 10 AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be donated in Beverly’s memory.
