Cecil S. Buroker

Cecil S. Buroker, 90, of Onalaska, died on Sunday, December 18, 2016, at the Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.

He was born in North Clayton, rural Crawford County, Wis., on December 14, 1926, to Alvin and Florence May (McCumber) Buroker. On May 30, 1948, he married Elizabeth “Betty” Davidson in Soldiers Grove, Wis. Betty preceded him in death on March 13, 2008.

Cecil was a Navy veteran of World War II. He worked as a diesel mechanic throughout his life working for Gateway Transportation for many years as well as De Bauche Truck and Diesel for several years before retiring. He was an avid Packer fan and loved tinkering with small engines and repairing lawnmowers and snow blowers. He was a long-time active member of the Ferkel Club and enjoyed golfing and bowling in his free time when he was younger. Most of all, Cecil enjoyed the friendship of his neighbors in Sunny Dell Acres where he lived for over 60 years.

Cecil is survived by two daughters, Sharyn (Joe) Schreier of La Crosse and Marcia Buroker of Rushford, Minn.; two sons, Terry (Anita) of Fairfax, Va., and David (Sandy Keller) of La Crosse; seven grandchildren, Josh (Angi) Leisso, Kelly (Jason Erdo) Buroker, Jennifer (Dominic) Dissmore, Eric Buroker, Shawn Schreier, Nicholas Buroker, and Taylor Buroker; great-grandchildren, Ashlyn, Braelynn and Cecil Leisso, and Micah Dissmore; one brother, Gordon Buroker of Blanchardville, Wis.; sister-in-law, Tolene Buroker of Soldiers Grove; many nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion, his dog, Milo. In addition to his wife Betty, Cecil was also preceded in death by brothers, Myron, Ellis, Arlis and infant brother, Duane; and sisters, Dorothy, Lela, Hilda, Evelyn and Leona.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 200 West Ave. So., in La Crosse. Pastor Derek Mueller will officiate. Burial will take place later that afternoon in Forest Hill Cemetery in Soldiers Grove. Family and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
