Phyllis R. Schreiber

Phyllis R. Schreiber, 93, of La Crosse, WI reached her heavenly home on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at Liberty Village in Tomah, WI.

She was born in Zumbro Falls, MN on February 24, 1923 to Jacob and Anna (Klindworth) Schwartz. She graduated from Lake City High School and then moved to La Crosse, WI where she met her husband while working at Trane company. She married Robert E. Schreiber on June 3, 1944 in Missoula, MT. Phyllis worked at First Federal Savings Bank for 21 years and retired in February 1987.

She was a devoted wife and mother, and was always involved in her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's various activities. She was a wonderful Christian role model to many. The love of Jesus shined brightly when she was helping others. She was an avid gardener and loved the outdoors. She loved to travel with her family and continued to travel throughout her retirement. She volunteered at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital, First Lutheran School, and as a naturalist at Hixon Forest Nature Center. She was a long time active member at First Ev.Lutheran Church and the Hill and Valley Garden Club in La Crosse.

She is survived by her two sons, Robert E. (Nola) Schreiber Jr. of Mequon, WI, and Richard (Pam) Schreiber of Huntsville, AL; two daughters, Sue Ann (Keith) Schedler of Tomah, WI, and Kimberly (Daniel) Zismer of Hopkins, MN; 20 grandchildren, Karl (Jane) Schreiber, John (Mandy) Schreiber, Kristen (Mike)Anderson, Jacob (Lauren) Schreiber, Joshua (Jamie) Schreiber, Hannah Schreiber, Caleb Schreiber, Heidi Schreiber, Elizabeth Schreiber, Andrew Schreiber, Benjamin Schreiber, Amanda Westrich, Jake Westrich, Jennifer (Peter) Schwartz, Jessica (Julio) Schedler Rodriguez, Jocelyn (Kevin) Warrick, Joshua (Jamie) Schedler, Jacob (Heather) Schedler, Elliot Zismer, Davis (Hayley) Zismer; 19 great-grandchildren, Charlie, Emmett, Maizie, & Jesse Schreiber, Quillian and Nola Anderson, Vincent & Valerie Schreiber, Elijah & Faith Schreiber, Emily, Halle & Finley Schwartz, Asante & Triana Rodriguez, Lila & Reed Warrick, Jackson & Juliana Schedler.
She is further survived by her sister-in-law Marilyn Lee of Rochester, MN; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Schreiber Sr., and three brothers, Harold Schwartz, Norm Schwartz, and Walt Schwartz.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 400 West Ave. S., La Crosse. Pastor Richard Pamperin will officiate. Burial will follow in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until the time of service. Memorials may be directed to First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Luther High School or Gundersen Medical Foundation. Schumacher – Kish Funeral & Cremation Services is assisting the family.
