Edward L. Erickson, 71, of Onalaska, died on Sunday, November 6, 2016 at the Bethany St. Joseph Care Center. He was born on September 14, 1945 in La Crosse to James and Catherine (Moan) Erickson Sr. Ed was a 1964 graduate of Holmen High School and attended WWTI. He was a US Navy veteran serving in the Vietnam War with the Seabees. Ed worked for several contractors in the area and then owned his own construction business for many years before retiring. Ed was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing with his family. He also enjoyed bowling, horseshoes, and was an accomplished musician who played with several bands including his Family band, FMS Limited, for many years. Ed was very active in the recovery community in La Crosse as an AA mentor and leader and helped start the Awol program in La Crosse and a recovery program in the Black River Falls Correctional Facility. Ed had a special way of touching the lives of people he met. He was an amazing dad, grandpa and brother.
He is survived by three children, David M. (Kim), Brenen M. (Dominic) Boarman, and Kalean A. Erickson, nine grandchildren, Bryce, Megan, AmyJo, Breanna, Elizabeth, Michael, Maysen, Raelyn and Bryant, two step-children, Anthony Schroeder and Heather (Ron) Schmidt, seven brothers and sisters, James Jr. (Gloria), Richard, Allen (Judy) Sandra (David) Walsh, Marlene “Mollie” Branson, Michael, and Clarissa Erickson, numerous nieces and nephews and his cat Ole. He was preceded in death by his life companion Lori Schroeder, his parents, and two grandsons, Dominik and Joseph.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at 4:00 PM at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation Services of La Crosse. Rev. Harald Bringsjord will officiate. Military Honors by the Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52 will follow the funeral services. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 12:00 Noon until the time of services.
