Vernon Edward Rydbom, 94 of La Crescent, MN, passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 11, 2016. One of eleven children, he was born in rural De Smet, SD, on December 28, 1921 to Arthur and Trintje (Boss) Rydbom. Vernon proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He married Mariann Otto on June 2, 1945 in Waukesha, Wis., where they lived until 1962. From 1962 until 1987, they lived and worked on a farm on South Ridge, rural Houston. They moved to La Crescent in 1987. Vern and his family were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church of South Ridge and later First Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Crescent. Mariann preceded him in death on December 5, 2011. He was a loving father and husband for 66 years. Vern had a genuine love for the outdoors and staying active.
He is survived by two sons, David Rydbom of La Crescent and Jeffrey (Rebecca) Rydbom of Monticello, MN, two grandsons Zachary (Lindsay) Rydbom, Nicolas Berg and one sister Rose Ann Krause of Rockford, MN. In addition to his parents and his loving wife Mariann, he was preceded in death by four sisters and five brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, October 14, 2016 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, La Crescent. Pastor Chris Christenson will officiate. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, La Crescent. Friends may call on the family Friday morning at the church from 11am until the time of services. Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services La Crescent chapel is assisting the family.
