Florence M. Harms, 92, of La Crosse and formerly of Holmen, Arcadia and Rock Island, Ill., went to her heavenly home on Thursday, October 6, 2016.
She was born on October 9, 1923, the only daughter of Emmett and Ida Case of Chicopee Falls, Mass. Florence graduated from Chicopee High School and attended St. John’s College in Winfield, Kan. On June 26, 1954, she married Lewis Harms of Rock Island, Ill. During her lifetime, Florence worked as an office assistant, parish worker, and Lutheran elementary school teacher.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and six older brothers, William, Ellsworth, George, Howard, Russell and Fred. She is survived by her son, Gary (Mary) of International Falls, Minn., and granddaughters, Erin (Kevin) Mottram, of Dubai, U.A.E., Jaime of Dallas, Texas, Annie of Fargo, N.Dak., and Amber of International Falls; by her daughter, LuAnn Kramer (Daryl) of Trempealeau, Wis., and grandchildren, Luke, of Galesville, Wis., Abigail (Luis) Chavez Kramer of Winona, Minn., and Samuel and Eve, both of Trempealeau; and two great grandsons, Max and Jett Mottram.
Florence thanks God for the years of life He gave to her and the talents He developed for her to use during her service to others. A Celebration of her new life will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, October 14th, at the Faith and Life Center at Bethany-Riverside Nursing Home, preceded by a visitation beginning at 3:00 p.m. Rev. Donald Stein will officiate. A reception will immediately follow the service. Burial will take place at a later date in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Rock Island, Ill. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed the American Cancer Society in Florence’s memory.
