Richard T. “Dick” Stavlo, 84 of French Island, passed away at his home on Thursday, September 29, 2016. He was born in Dearborn, MI, on November 15, 1931 to Adolph and Margaret (Wescott) Stavlo. On May 30, 1957 he married Marlene Richert in La Crosse and she preceded him in death in 2008 after 51 years of marriage. Dick had proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. A carpenter by trade, Dick was responsible for building many of the homes in the Holmen area. He was an avid fisherman who loved house boating and summers on the river with his family. Later in life he enjoyed morning coffee with his friends at the north side Family Restaurant. Spending time with his good friends Bruce and Tom was also very important to him.
He is survived by his two daughters Sue (Ed) Fish of Holmen, Sandy (Steve) Swan of Lake City, MN, two sons Rod (Karla) Stavlo of Kasson, MN, John (Kim) Stavlo of Deer Lodge, MT; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. In addition to his wife Marlene, he was preceded in death by two sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 11am on Friday, October 7, 2016 at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services Onalaska chapel; 907 Sand Lake Rd. Pastor Erik Feig will officiate. Burial will take place in the French Island Cemetery. Friends may call on the family Friday morning at the funeral home from 10am until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Children’s Miracle Network.
