Joyce M. Sagen, 84, of La Crosse, passed away on Friday, September 2, 2016.
She was born in La Crosse on September 2, 1932, to Oscar and Gertrude (Zirfus) Olson. She was a 1950 graduate of Logan High School, where she met her future husband, Earland Sagen, while playing in the band. She and Earland were married on November 24, 1950, at Bethel Lutheran Church in La Crosse.
Joyce was an accomplished seamstress throughout her life and did sewing and alterations out her home for many years. She also taught night school sewing classes at Western Wisconsin Technical Institute (now Western Technical College) for many years.
Earlier in her life, Joyce played violin in the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra for several years. She was also a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 23 of La Crosse.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Earland; her children, David (Cindy) Sagen of Janesville, Wis., Karen (Dana) Wahl of Beloit, Wis., and Diane Sagen of Edgerton, Wis.; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a sister, JoAnn Thrune of Onalaska; a brother, Ralph (Marge) Olson of La Crosse; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother-in-law, Ed Thrune.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 7th, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 1931 Loomis St., La Crosse. Rev. Duane Baardseth will officiate. Burial will take place in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Family and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Joyce’s memory to the organization of the donor’s choice.
