Lairn S. Schmitt

Lairn Stanley Schmitt, 67, of West Salem, passed away at the VA Memorial Hospital on Thursday morning after a long illness. He was born February 12, 1949, in La Crosse. Lairn was preceded in death by his wife, Rose (Roberts) Schmitt; parents, Herman B. and Laura A. (Kromke) Schmitt; and a sister, Patricia Schmitt. He is survived by his daughter, Tracy Cleveland, daughter, Linda Short and son, Lairn (Trista) Schmitt Jr. He also is survived by four grandchildren and two great grandchildren; seven brothers and sisters, Richard (Kathryn) Schmitt, Lily (Leonard) LaDue, Marna Stanhope, Carole (David) Rebhahn, Donald Schmitt, Brian (Carla) Schmitt and Kevin Schmitt; along with many nieces and nephews.

Lairn served our country for two tours of duty during the Vietnam Era. He was employed with Fort McCoy Motor pool department at his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He will be deeply missed.

Graveside services, with military honors, will be held at 12:30 P.M., Friday Sept 9, 2016, at the Mormon Coulee Memorial Park, N1137 Bloomer Mill Rd, La Crosse, Wis. 54601. Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of La Crosse is assisting with the services.
