Vicki L. Thomsen

Heaven Truly Gained An Angel.
Vicki L. Thomsen of La Crescent, MN passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 13th, 2016 at the age of 69. Vicki was born January 23rd, 1947 to Donald K. & Joyce E. (Geer) Malherek in Fairmont, MN. She was raised in Truman, MN and graduated from Truman High School in 1965. Vicki married into the Thomsen family in the summer of 1965 and went on to have four children; Jill Thomsen, James Thomsen, Robert Thomsen and Leanne Thomsen. She later divorced and met William Meyer in 1992.
Vicki was a hard worker and had a passion for the food industry. Owning her own restaurant was her biggest accomplishment and challenge. It’s hard to tell which she enjoyed the most, customer interaction or the food preparation. She treated her guests and her co-workers like family and friends. Everyone always enjoyed her cooking, of which was always enough for an army. She never measured, but instead “cooked with love”.
Vicki’s pride and joy were her children and grandchildren. She raised four successful children on her own and did so with pride and dignity. She raised her children much like she cooked, a little bit of this and a little bit of that mixed in with a slight pinch of sass. She instilled in her children the meaning of good work ethic, being honest and kind hearted and the importance of having a sense of humor. Her children grew up never questioning their mother’s love for them (although each would argue that she loved them more).
Vicki has always been a very giving person. She would do what she could to help anyone that truly needed her help. Even to her dying day when her body failed her in life, she still helped to give the gift of sight by donation after her death. She will forever be remembered for these quality traits.
She is lovingly remembered by Her Children; Jill Thomsen Miller (Tom), James Thomsen (Bridgette), Robert Thomsen (Kate), and Leanne Thomsen (Andrew Heisler); Her Grandchildren Paige (20), Carlene (18), Andrew (18), Emily (17), Samuel (16), Joseph (15), Nicholas (14), Jacob (14), Grace (11), and Vivienne (2); Her Beloved William Meyer; Her Brother Dennis Malherek (Jean), an uncle and several cousins.
She was welcomed to her eternal home by her Parents, Donald & Joyce Malherek and her Grandson Bryce Miller.
There will be a Celebration of Vicki’s life at 1:00 PM on Sunday, August 28th, 2016 at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, 111 S. Oak St., La Crescent, MN. Rev Greg Nelson will officiate. Visitation will be from 12:00pm until the time of service. A fellowship luncheon will follow at the American Legion in La Crescent. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
The family would like to thank the staff of Gundersen Medical Center of La Crosse for their comfort and care in Vicki’s last days.
