Carl L. Fewell Jr., 80, of La Crosse, passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2016 surrounded by his family. Carl was called Junior by family and friends. He was born on August 25, 1935 in Wenona, IL to Carl and Edna (Barth) Fewell Sr. At the age of four, he and his family moved to his grandparent’s farm in Minonk, IL where he attended school. Carl married Dixie Deyo on August 10, 1957 and they had four children. He worked at Lange Cartage and later became a transportation manager for Foxmeyer, both in La Crosse. As a transportation manager for Foxmeyer, in February 1993, the La Crosse team was recognized for 2,006,035 miles of safe driving. Carl enjoyed walking, spending time outdoors, and watching the Green Bay Packers. His kindness and unselfish ways were present in his daily life. He was glad to help out anyone in need with his new inventions or problem solving ideas.
Carl is survived by his wife Dixie of 59 years, his son Aaron (Xue) Fewell, two daughters, Dixie Schmidt of La Crescent and Carolyn Simenson of Holmen, six grandchildren, Anthony (Sarah) Schmidt, Adam Schmidt, Anna Fewell, Isaac Simenson, Emily and Alisha Fewell, five great-grandchildren, Carter and Ella Schmidt, Madison Eden, and Delia and Melody Tuma, two brothers, Jack (Joan) Fewell and Larry (Kathy) Fewell of Camdenton, MO, one sister Marjorie Moorfield of Camdenton, MO, two sisters-in-law, Lorna (David) Schildman of La Crosse and Sharon (Ken) Lindley of Minonk, IL, and lifetime childhood friends Don (Marge) Dunham of Minonk, IL. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Donald Fewell, a sister Lois Fowler, and a son Corwin “Cory” Fewell.
The family would like to thank Dr. Brumm, M.D. of Mayo Clinic Health System and the hospice and respite teams of Gundersen Health System for their excellent care.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 10:30 AM at Wesley United Methodist Church, 721 King Street, La Crosse, with Pastor Park Hunter officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation Services of La Crosse, 200 West Avenue South, on Monday from 5:00 – 7:00 PM and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
