Eleanor Margaret Lee

Eleanor Margaret Lee, 95, of La Crosse passed away peacefully on August 15, 2016.

Eleanor was born April 17, 1921, north of Menomonie, WI, on a dairy farm, the daughter of Edwin and Edna (Denning) Schlough . Eleanor graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in 1942, beginning her career in the Maternity Ward. She became inactive to raise a family in 1948. She returned to Nursing in 1965 working in Respiratory Therapy until her retirement in 1983. Eleanor raised her children on her own, after her divorce in 1967.

Eleanor loved being with her family and continually provided the caring support for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed keeping up her home, yard and planting her garden and was an excellent pianist in her younger days. Her player piano came in handy later in life especially during holiday celebrations with her family. She loved playing cards, cribbage, and the Green Bay Packer games with her long time friend, Al Roellich and friends at the Knights of Columbus Supper Club. Eleanor was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. In earlier years she volunteered at fund raisers for the church. For several years she kept the family tree heritage up to date. Eleanor attended this years’ huge family reunion in Elk Mound, WI, one week before her death. She completed her bucket list.

Eleanor will be dearly missed and is survived by two sons; Harry (Barb) Lee of Rhinelander, WI, and Robert (Carol) Lee of La Crosse; two daughters, Peggy Lee of Prospects Heights, IL, and Fran (John) Lee-Edwards of La Crosse; three brothers, William (Virginia) Schlough, Larry (Sherrie) Schlough and Richard (Sharon) Schlough; 3 grandchildren, Christina (Dave) Chiapuzio, Amy (Jon) Dickinson, and Todd Arttus ; 5 great grandchildren, Travis, Taylor and Trevor Chiapuzio, and Jack and Ellie (Eleanor’s namesake) Dickinson and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Geraldine Clark and Lorraine Molner and by two brothers, John and Jerome Schlough.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 19 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1333 South 13 Street, with Rev. Rick Roberts officiating. Family and friends may call at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of mass. Burial will follow the mass at Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse. Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of La Crosse is assisting the family with arrangements.

The family wants to thank all the caregivers at Bethany on Cass and Bethany Riverside Care Center for the wonderful care they gave to Eleanor.
