Michael Haggerty

Michael C. Haggerty, 66, of La Crosse, died on Thursday, June 16, 2016, at the Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.
He was born in La Crosse on July 28, 1949, to Joseph and Marjorie (Buros) Haggerty. He grew up in La Crosse and was a 1967 graduate of Aquinas High School. He also attended U.W.-La Crosse and Viterbo College.
Mike loved the Coulee Region. He swam across the Mississippi, hiked and biked the bluffs and cheered the Packers. His career field was extensive: altar boy, paper boy, stock boy, butcher-helper, bartender, orderly at St. Francis Hospital, head of orderlies at Gundersen-Lutheran, cement finisher, and helped build many of the bridges around La Crosse with Lunda Construction. He later became the business agent for the Cement Finishers, representing the “working man”. He worked ten years as a Labor/Management & Prevailing Wage specialist for the Operating Engineers, traveling all over Wisconsin, and then held the same position with the Laborers. After retirement, Mike enjoyed more travel, more reading, and laughing.
Mike is survived by his sister, Lee (Wayne) Pfaff; nephew, Ryan Tauscher; nieces, Kelly (Jason) Schliefer, Meghan Tauscher, and Jen Tauscher Fisher (who was married to nephew, Michael Tauscher), and their families; and Mike’s former wife, Chris Bauer, to whom he was married for 25 years. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Joe; his mother, Marge; his nephew, Michael Tauscher; and his friends, Shorty Bauer and Laurie Bauer.
Mike, God will hold you in the palm of his hand! There will be a memorial gathering to celebrate Mike’s life from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 14th, at Premier Catering (formerly the Baus Haus), 1906 Ward Ave., La Crosse. Let’s enjoy his life and cheer him on!
