Caroline Pieper

Caroline T. “Carol” Pieper, 83, of La Crosse, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2016, at the Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse.
She was born in La Crosse on November 18, 1932, to John and Caroline (Ederer) Wolle. She married Donald E. Pieper on March 26, 1954, in Caledonia, Minn. She and Don lived in La Crescent for numerous years and have lived in La Crosse for the past twenty years.
Carol worked as a nurse for many years and spent the majority of her career in the Renal Dialysis Dept. at Gundersen-Lutheran Medical Center. She was active in the Ladies Aid at First Ev. Lutheran Church in La Crescent and at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Onalaska. She was currently a member of First Ev. Lutheran Church in La Crosse.
Carol and Don were long-time supporters of Luther High School. When their children attended, they would host the entire high school band at their home in La Crescent after they marched in the Apple Fest parade. For many years, she and Don sold the produce they grew at their hobby farm in the Town of Medary at the Farmer’s Market in La Crosse. Carol also enjoyed the many trips and vacations she took across the county with Don and her family.
Carol is survived by her husband, Don; her three children and their families: Rev. Donald Pieper and his wife, Karen, of Henderson, Nev., and their children Elyse (Carl) Engel, and Matt and Andy Pieper; Cari Burmaster, and her husband, Mark Burmaster, of Onalaska, her son, Joe (Melissa) Noth and their children, Aiden and Keena , and her daughter, Lindsay (Travis) Krings and their daughter,Lily; and Russ Pieper and his wife, Mary Schaefer, of Petaluma, Cal., and their children, Anna, Margaret and Quinn. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Wilson Pieper; and three brothers, John, William and Philip Wolle.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00a.m., Tuesday, July 12th, at First Ev. Lutheran Church in La Crosse. Pastor Ben Schmudlach will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Garden of Peace Mausoleum in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Monday, at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 907 Sand Lake Rd., in Onalaska, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the church.
