Michael L. Mcguire

Holmen - Michael L. McGuire, 61, of Holmen, WI, died Monday, June 27, 2016, at Gundersen Health System of La Crosse with his family by his side.
He was born August 30, 1954, in Minneapolis, MN, to James and Gloria (Heitz) McGuire. He grew up in Viroqua, WI, and was a 1972 graduate of Viroqua Area High School. He moved to La Crosse, WI, and attended the University of Wisconsin La Crosse and Western Wisconsin Technical College where he obtained his associates degree in Printing and Publishing. He worked as a printer at Bauer Speed Print Sir Speedy and PIP Printing and was part owner of The Copy Shop before he began his over 25 year employment with La Crosse County Printing Department as the Manager until merging with the Information Technology Department and transitioning to Manager of Support Services.
Michael was united in marriage to Nancy J. Reed in Viroqua, WI, on September 26, 1981. They made their first home and started their family in St. Joseph, WI, and later moved to West Salem, WI, and then to Holmen, WI. Michael was one of a kind and always had a smile and a kind word for family, friends, and all who were lucky enough to meet him. His family was the center of his life and his wife, children and grandchildren were the joys of his life. He was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
He enjoyed spending time with his wife, Nancy, whether they were on motorcycles, working on home improvement projects together or just sitting in the quiet of each other’s company. He was the love of her life. Michael’s kind and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father, James “Jim” McGuire, brother William “Bill” McGuire, mother in law, Florence “Peg” Reed, father in law, Howard Reed Jr., brother in law Jeffery Reed, brother in law Dr. Richard Hulse and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Survivors include his loving wife Nancy McGuire of Holmen, daughter Brittany (Kurt) Larson of Bangor, WI, son Sean (Tina) McGuire of La Crescent, MN, four grandsons Keagan and Owen Larson, and Colin and Taylor McGuire, mother Gloria McGuire of Viroqua, WI, sister Teresa McGuire Hulse of Onalaska, WI, sister in law Tammy McGuire of Monroe, WI, and brothers Kevin McGuire of La Crosse, Brian (Wendy) McGuire of Mauston, WI, Patrick (Terri) McGuire of Viroqua, brothers and sisters in law David (Kathy Ugo) Reed of Bloomingdale, WI, Tony (Christine) Reed of Genoa, WI, Mary Reed of Viroqua, John (Janet) Reed of Viroqua and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Schumacher Kish Funeral Home, 200 West Avenue; La Crosse from 4 to 7 p.m. Where a rosary will be recited at 6:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 130 Losey Blvd. South; La Crosse. Visitation will also be held at the church on Wednesday from 10am until the time of Mass. Monsignor Robert Hundt and Rev. Peter Raj will concelebrate the Mass. Burial will follow in Onalaska City Cemetery.
The family would like to thank all of the wonderful and caring staff at Gundersen Health System for their kindness, compassion and exceptional care. Michael was able to give the gift of sight by becoming an eye donor, and will help over 50 others with his gift of bone and tissue.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be donated in Michael’s memory for cardiac rehab and organ donation.
