Michael A. Malone

Michael A. Malone, 68, passed away on June 27, 2016 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born in La Crosse on September 22, 1947, to Russell and V. Bette (Fillner) Malone. He graduated from Onalaska High School in 1965 and joined the army within a few months of graduation. He was with the 173rd Airborne Brigade and was part of the first combat jump in Vietnam. Upon his discharge from the army in 1968, he decided to stay in Colorado where he continued to hunt and fish, both of which he loved from the time he was a young boy in Wisconsin.
Mike is survived by his siblings Pat Granger, Kathy Malone, Lisa (Al) Wiebke, and Jim Gerske. He is further survived by his niece Stephanie and her children and grandchildren and by his nephew Mike and his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and step father Gunter Gerske, his nephew William “Billy” Olson Jr., and his former wife Wilma.
A memorial visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 until 7pm on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of La Crosse; 200 West Ave. South. Private family burial with military rites by American Legion Post 52 will be held later at Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
