Gene, “Louie” as he was called by his friends, was born on January 31, 1928 in La Crosse to William and Ida (Miller) Chambers. Gene was a 1947 graduate of Logan High School, where he played football and served on many school committees. He married Phyllis A. Graff on February 11, 1956. Gene served in the Wisconsin National Guard Red Arrow Division, 173rd Engineer Battalion. He was employed for many years with Nelson Clothing Store.
Gene is survived by three children, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, a daughter Nancy (Michael) Volden of Onalaska and their children Steven (Lynne) Volden of Maricopa, AZ and Jenna (friend Justin) Volden of Tolleson, AZ, a daughter Kathy Chambers of Onalaska and her children Allissa Morris and Jacob (Jenna) Houdek, and their children Amelia and Harper Houdek all of Onalaska, and a son Gary Chambers of La Crosse. He is also survived by a brother-in-law and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Phyllis and his sister Ruth.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, July 1st, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, 1201 Avon Street. Pastor David Leistekow will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of services.
