Dale G. Meyer

Dale G. Meyer, age 91, passed away peacefully at Hillview Heath Care Center in La Crosse on Sunday, May 29, 2016 with family at his side. Dale was born on August 13, 1924 in La Crosse, the son of Clarence and Alice (Roesler) Meyer. Dale grew up on a farm in Barre Mills, graduated from West Salem High School, and enlisted in the Navy where he served from October, 1942 to 1946. After WWII, he attended Marquette University and graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Dale was then employed by Travelers Insurance Company from 1950 to 1960 in personnel and accounting at various locations including Chicago and San Francisco. In 1960, he made a serious career change and purchased “The Bun" root beer stand in Waukesha, WI that he operated for 26 years. In 1986, Dale retired and returned to La Crosse where he became an active member of English Lutheran Church and volunteered with many community organizations. He was also a member of Moose Lodge 1920, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and the American Legion. Dale will be remembered for his outgoing personality and enthusiasm for life.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Lester, Clarence, Glen, Harold, sister Marjorie (Breiwick) and two nephews Kevin Breiwick and Randy Meyer. Dale is survived by several nieces and nephews: Patricia (Glenn) Decker of The Villages, FL; Guy Meyer (Tracey Boyce) of New Berlin, WI/Gilmer, TX; Robert (Gail) Meyer of Naples, FL; Susan Johnson of Middleton, WI; Stan (Karen) Breiwick of Racine, WI; Linda Breiwick (Dave Matzke) of Green Bay, WI; Tina McCracken of La Crosse, WI; Richard (Mary) Meyer of La Crosse, WI/Mesa, AZ; Gerald (Janet) Meyer of La Crosse, WI; and David Meyer of Tomah, WI.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 11:00 AM at English Lutheran Church. Pastor Melinda Pupillo and Vicar Allyson Bowman will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of services. Memorials may be given to English Lutheran Church, Mayo Clinic Hospice Program, or the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1920 La Crosse. Dale’s family would like to thank the staff at Hillview Health Care Center for the kind and loving care they gave Dale.
