Marilyn M. Verse, 92, of La Crosse, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at the Hillview Health Care Center.
She was born in Minneapolis, Minn., on October 27, 1923, to William and Helen (Kocimski) Allington. She married Emanuel “Emil” Verse at St. Mary’s Basilica in Minneapolis on January 13, 1945.
Marilyn worked part-time for Sears for several years. She then worked in the Insurance Dept. at Gundersen Clinic for many years until retiring. In their retirement years, Marilyn and Emil enjoyed spending summers in Wisconsin Dells and wintering in Tucson, Ariz., and also traveling across the country.
When Marilyn was younger, she enjoyed reading, playing cards, flower gardening, collecting knick-knacks, playing shuffleboard along with Emil, and was considered an “expert shopper”. She deeply cherished her family and loved family gatherings, especially on the holidays.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Emil; her children, David (Jan) Verse of Livingston, Texas, Dale (Connie) Verse of Houston, Minn., Patrick (Debra) Verse of La Crosse, and Lynn (David) Rude of Rochester, Minn.; seven grandchildren and three step grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren; and one step great, great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amy Jo Verse, and a great-granddaughter, McKenna Verse.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 27th, at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish, 2006 Weston St., La Crosse. Rev. Brian Konopa will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Garden of Peace Mausoleum in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass on Friday at the church. Memorials may be directed to Mary, Mother of the Church Parish, the Bus Fund at Hillview Health Care Center, or the Gundersen Medical Foundation in Marilyn’s memory. Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of La Crosse is assisting the family.
