Milo G. Shepardson

Milo G. Shepardson, 84 of La Crescent died on Friday, May 6, 2016 in Winona, MN. He was born April 8, 1932 in La Crosse to Kenneth and Carrie (Callan) Shepardson and graduated from La Crosse Central High School in 1950. On May 24, 1952 he married Jeanette Louise Wuest and she preceded him in death on September 24, 1991.
Milo joined the United States Navy and traveled to 42 cities in 23 countries and crossed the equator 3 times aboard the USS Albany, Heavy Cruiser which was the flagship for the 6th Fleet and commanded by Rear Admiral J.L. Holloway, USN. Following his discharge he returned to La Crescent and was hired by the City of La Crescent Maintenance Department on April 21, 1955. He retired from the City on October 31, 1988 after 33 years of service. He was a member of Gittens-Leidel American Legion Post 595 in La Crescent.
Milo is survived by a son; Paul (Kari) Shepardson and two grandchildren, Blake and Grant all from Highlands Ranch, CO; three step-brothers, David Shepardson of Westby, WI, Dale Shepardson of Salem, OR and Dana Shepardson of Avondale, AZ; a daughter-in-law, Sally Shepardson of Marion, IA; a sister-in-law, Eloise Shepardson of Winona, MN and his longtime companion, Kathleen Cooper of La Crescent. In addition to his wife Jeanette, he was preceded in death by a son, Joseph in 2014, an infant daughter, Jane and a brother Ronald in 2003.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, May 26th at Crucifixion Catholic Church in La Crescent with Rev. Gregory Havel officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM Wednesday, May 25th at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, 111 S. Oak St. La Crescent where a prayer service will be held at 4:45 PM. Visitation will also be held on Thursday from 9:30 AM until the time of services at the church. Memorials are suggested to Crucifixion Catholic Church.
