Robert "Bob" J. Von Arx

Robert (Bob) J. Von Arx , 82, of La Crescent passed away Sunday, May 8, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Health System-Franciscan Healthcare. He was born in Hokah, February 4, 1934 to John and Magdalen (Hafner) Von Arx. He attended St. Peter’s Grade School and High School. He was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Hokah. Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. On June 1, 1957, he married Doris Paus at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. He worked in the concrete business for many years in both La Crosse and Sparta. After retiring from that, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing, gardening, and ice fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Doris; two daughters, Sue (Bob Hafner) Horihan and Karen (Ron) Petersen all of La Crescent, one son, David (Missy Storlie) Von Arx of Hokah; five grandchildren, Ryan (Ashleigh) Horihan, Teri (Michael) Kennelly, Carlie Von Arx, Jon Petersen, and Josh Petersen; two great grandchildren, Dylan Horihan and Rowan Kennelly with another one on the way. He is also survived by one sister, Bernice (Lowell) Onsgard and one brother Roger (Sandra) Von Arx. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lena Von Arx, an infant daughter, and one sister, Dorothy Senn.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 13 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Hokah. Father Pratap Reddy Salibindla will officiate. Burial, with military rites by American Legion Post 595, will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call on the family, Thursday, May 12 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 111 S. Oak St., La Crescent and at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. to the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be used in Bob’s memory.

Thank you to friends and family who have supported Bob and his family in so many ways during this journey.
