Lester Ervin Dwyer, 91, of La Crosse, died on Wednesday, May 04, 2016 at the Hillview Health Care Center. He was born on May 22, 1924 in Coon Valley, WI to Mike and Caroline (Wuensch) Dwyer. He married Delores Baumgartner on November 24, 1942 and she preceded him in death. Lester served with the U.S. Navy during WWII. He had worked at A. Grams & Sons as a truck driver, and then sold bakery products for Sierzant Inc. until his retirement in 1987. Lester enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and bowling.
Lester is survived by three children, Sharon Strasser, Gary (Sandra) Dwyer, and Steve Dwyer, 14 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren, his significant other, Marcia Hoeth, a sister, Caroline (Leonard) Martin, and a brother-in-law Jim Michel. In addition to his wife Delores he was preceded in death by a son Richard Dwyer, a great-grandson Casey Strasser, three brothers, John, Donald and Arlan, and six sisters, Delores Gerke, Irma Steinberg, Arlene Bahr, Elvera Herold, Lillian Schilling and Mary Jane Michel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Rev. Rick Roberts will officiate. Entombment with military honors will be in the St. Francis of Assisi Mausoleum, Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation Services of La Crosse on Friday from 5:00 – 7:00 PM and at the church on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of services.
