LA CROSSE – Madonna “Donna” Brooks of La Crosse, WI, passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at the Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse at the age of 77.
Madonna was the beloved daughter of the late Raymond and Wilma McNulty; devoted wife of the late George Brooks; dedicated mother of George “Chris” (Kwang Cha) Brooks, Todd (Angela) Brooks, Patrick (Gail) Brooks and Shawn (Tracy) Brooks; loving grandmother of Jacob Brooks, Scott (Alissa) Brooks, Anthony (Davitri) Brooks, Angela (Stephen) Petche, Rachel (Robert) Haake, Rebecca (Eric) Borchardt, Mitchell Brooks and Jessica Brooks, adoring great-grandmother to Madeline and Aiden Brooks and was looking forward to welcoming her third great grandson in June; beloved sister to Raymond McNulty, Karen Augustine and Kathleen (Craig) Thayer; and dear friends with Joyce Vesley, Pastor Richard and Judy Pierce and a multitude of loving friends and neighbors.
Donna was dedicated to her family and enjoyed spending special times together, especially during the holidays. She LOVED the holidays and entertaining – especially the decorating! If it sparkled, she was all in. When her four boys were young, she held ceramic classes in her home to share her artistic talent with others. As her children grew, she began working in the registrar’s office at WWTC in addition to serving in the community. Volunteering was very important to Donna. She started the La Crosse food SHARE program, dedicated many hours to Operation Homefront, supported the Wounded Warrior Project, worked tirelessly for La Crosse RSVP, led Sunday School classes, taught bible studies, and was very active in all aspects of her church. She loved to sing and all were blessed with her beautiful voice. Donna was an avid supporter of the Community Theatre, the La Crosse Central booster club, Catbirds basketball and Loggers baseball teams and loved attending the music festivals.
Though her health proved challenging in the last few years, she approached each day with optimism and love with the support of family and friends. She will be remembered for her strong faith in Jesus Christ, her Savior, her generosity, honesty and loyalty. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 2, 2016, at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services La Crosse chapel. Pastor Richard Pierce of Southside Christian will officiate. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be directed to the Cancer Research Institute at www.cancerresearch.org.
