Jane was born on November 9, 1945 in Red Wing, MN, to father Walter Wohlwend and mother Mildred Benson, who predeceased her in death. She grew up in a small, loving family with two brothers. In college at the University of Minnesota, she graduated with a BS degree in Nursing and went on to graduate from Michigan State University graduate school with a Masters of Arts.
Jane had four passions in life, the US Military, Caring for the sick as a Nurse, reading endless books, and her wide circle of friends.

She then joined the Wisconsin Army National Guard serving as a Nurse and rising to the rank of Colonel before her retirement. Jane was an accomplished psychiatric nurse and clinic nurse specialist working at St. Mary's Hospital in Marshfield, WI, and then at St. Francis Hospital in La Crosse, WI finally retiring after 40 years in 2009. When diagnosed with multiple myeloma cancer in the late summer of 2015, she remained dedicated in her will to fight her illness. She remained a caring mother and friend throughout her life and final months.
Jane requested to be cremated. A visitation and funeral service is scheduled for 3:00pm on Friday, 29 April 2016 at the Roncalli Newman Center in La Crosse, WI with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jane's life. Her ashes will be interred at a plot in Spooner Military Cemetery.
