Leona F. Knutson

Leona F. Knutson, 99 of La Crosse died on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at the Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse, with her two sons by her side. She was born January 16, 1917 in Barre Mills, WI to Walter and Ragna (Bjorkman) Tauscher. Leona was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Barre Mills and attended the church’s school. Following school she worked at Modern Laundry until she met Orton Knutson. The couple was married on February 6, 1937 in La Crosse and Orton preceded her in death on February 16, 1996.Leona loved gardening, crocheting, word puzzles, playing cards, especially euchre and traveling the United States.
Survivors include two sons; Gerald Knutson of La Crosse and Ronald (Laurel) Knutson of Holmen; two grandchildren, Eric (Anita) Knutson of Onalaska and Erin (John) Wilber of Ettrick; five great-grandchildren, Andrew, Michael and Marissa Welper and Brianna and Kyle Knutson; two sisters, Doris Thompson of La Crosse and Marilyn Senn of Hollywood, MD; a sister-in-law, Bona Tauscher of Onalaska; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to her husband Orton, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Calverna Rhodes, Luella Bissen and Ardell Garves; three brothers, Willard, Marvin and infant Waldemore Tauscher.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, April 22nd at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 4141 Mormon Coulee Road, La Crosse with Rev. Harald Bringsjord offiating. Private burial will be held in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of services.
