Arnold George Kappauf, 85, born September 21, 1930 in New Hartford Township, MN, passed away April 2, 2016 at the Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, WI. The fourth child of Edwin & Sylvia (Beach) Kappauf, he is survived by his brother Howard (Marion), twin sisters Charlotte Unnasch & Shirley Meier, his son Timothy, daughter Vicki (Keith) Liverman, 6 grandchildren Andrea (Bo) Lathrop, Isaac Kasten, Jedidiah (Katie) Kappauf, Joe (Erin) Kappauf, Tyler Liverman, Althea Kappauf, six great grandchildren, many nephews & nieces, co-workers and friends. Arnie was preceded in death by his brother Dwayne.
Arnie was a veteran of the US Air Force and served in England from January 1951 through December 1954. He married Shirley J. Trulson June 21, 1956 and they were later divorced. As a Master Bricklayer, Arnie worked for several construction companies during his lifetime with Fowler and Hammer being one of the last and contributed his skills to many projects in the Tri-State area including Lutheran Hospital, churches, schools, businesses and many personal homes. He was awarded life membership to the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers May 2011 for 50 consecutive years of membership. He also worked for the La Crescent school system as an aide on buses for special needs children.
Arnie enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially gardening. In the past 20 years Arnie lived on a parcel of land that was originally the site of his childhood home in Pine Creek. He enjoyed the peace and quiet of the country life. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, uncle and friend who will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, La Crescent. Pastor Mike Woods will officiate. Burial will follow in the Toledo Cemetery in Pine Creek with lunch to follow at Prince of Peace. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation Services of La Crescent on Wednesday from 5:30 – 7:30 PM, and at the church on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of services.
