Jerrold “Jerry” Otto Schiebel, 76 of rural Houston, MN, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse. He was born on August 29, 1939 to Fritz and Mabel (Kittleson) Schiebel in Mankato, MN. He married Suzzanne Sorum on May 9, 1964 in Remer, MN.
After graduating high school in Mankato, Jerry joined the US Navy serving three years as a machinist mate. Upon his discharge Jerry started his career in maintenance as a Journeyman Machinist at Northwest Airlines and later Grain Belt Brewing Company in Minneapolis. In 1976 he and his family moved to Houston, MN where he was employed in maintenance at G. Heileman Brewing in La Crosse until retiring in 1996. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, and traveling with friends and family. He loved watching his grandchildren grow and cheering for them in their many different activities. Jerry enjoyed football season when he rooted for his two favorite teams: the Vikings and whoever was playing the Packers that day.
Jerry’s childhood was filled with love and fond memories. He was very proud of the fact that he was able to provide a good life to his own family along with a strong work ethic that he instilled in his children and grandchildren.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 52 years Suzzanne, his son’s Scott (Colleen) Schiebel, Jarett (Cindy) Schiebel, grandchildren Meagan, Erik, Paige and Payton, sisters Florence (Ron) Johnson, Marilyn Smith, and Joyce Poelvoorde, and sisters-in-law Jeannie (Randy) MacDonell and Jeannette (Tom) Bliss.
A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held from 3:00 until 6:00 pm on Saturday April 2, 2016 at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services La Crescent Chapel.
