On Friday, March 18th, at St Marys Hospital in Rochester, MN, beautiful baby Scarlett McKenzie passed away. She was 7 months old. Scarlett died in her parents loving arms after getting an infection that she could not recover from. She was born on July 27th, 2015 with a condition called Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia, and lived in the hospital most of her life with her parents always by her side. She was the sweetest angel, strongest fighter, delicate flower, most resilient darling throughout everything. Her parents were so blessed to have had Scarlett even for a short time, wishing they could have had her so much longer. They will meet again in heaven and that is their only consolation. Scarlett will always be remembered for her sweet smile that lit up the room, her little tongue sticking out when she was happy, kicking her legs, playing with her toys, her beautiful long curly hair, her little nose and chubby cheeks, long eyelashes and happy eyes. She was always ready to cuddle and look at books, she enjoyed physical and music therapy, her musical dog, and her mobile. She never gave up and her resilient spirit has taught us so much. All of the nurses, Drs, respiratory therapists, and staff from the NICU and PICU took great care of Scarlett and became like family. We will never stop missing our daughter.
In addition to her parents, Jon and Sarah (Heser) McKenzie, Scarlett is survived by two brothers; Jack and Luke McKenzie; paternal grandfather, Daniel McKenzie; maternal grandparents, Cathy Callahan and Jeff (Renee) Heser; maternal great-grandmother, Mary Callahan; aunt and godmother, Christine Heser; uncle, Kyle Heser and godfather, Chris Kopf. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, LuAnn McKenzie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, March 23rd at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Rev. Rick Roberts officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5-7 PM at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of La Crosse and again on Wednesday from 9:30 AM until the time of services at the church.
