James Langley

March 25, 1930 — March 6, 2016

James “Jim” Langley, 85 of La Crosse passed away at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 6, 2016. He was born in North Minneapolis, MN to Hilda and Reinhold Langley on March 25, 1930.
Jim served in the Korean War and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. Following his discharge he returned home and attended the Minneapolis School of Business. On October 9, 1954 he married Jacki Burns and they remained together for 62 years.
Jim had worked as a safety consultant for Wausau Insurance Co. in La Crosse for 27 years, retiring in 1993. Jim played several sports in high school, football being his favorite. In his later years he enjoyed golfing, biking, cross country skiing and playing in several softball leagues. Jim was an avid sports fan, but most of all he treasured his family and time with his grandchildren. Jim loved playing cards and enjoyed the Friday night euchre games with friends Marilyn and Bill. He was involved in Sokels Club and the Men’s Club at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Jim coached baseball and basketball and sang in church choirs. Following his retirement Jim volunteered at RSVP for several years. He thoroughly enjoyed planning trips, traveling, nature and bird watching.
Jim was preceded in death by a son, Michael; two brothers; three sisters; his parents and his in-laws.
In addition to his wife Jacki; he is survived by two daughters; Terri (Scott) Moore and Linda (Todd) Eber both of La Crosse; grandchildren, Nicholas Olson, Christina La Beff, Joshua Olson, Lucas, Annie, Madelyn and Michael Eber; great-grandchildren, Nathan and Natalie La Beff, Dylan and Daniela Olson, Farrah Olson and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private celebration of Jim’s life will be held at a later date. The family is grateful for all the support from his short term hospice care and visits from Sr. Kathy. Jim will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
