Wayne W. Husman

Wayne W. Husman, 80 of La Crescent passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in La Crescent. He was born September 6, 1935 In La Crescent to Irvin and Dorothy (Veglahn) Husman and graduated from La Crosse Central High School in 1953. Wayne had served in the U.S. Navy aboard the heavy cruiser USS Albany from January 1956 until January 1958.
On April 25, 1959 he married Margaret Larson in La Crosse. Wayne had worked as a carpenter for his father and Bateman Brothers Construction in La Crescent. He later worked as a finish carpenter for Peter Nelson and Son of La Crosse for 30 years. Wayne was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in La Crescent where he served on the Parish Council and the church cemetery board. He enjoyed serving as a cemetery lawn keeper, delivering Meals on Wheels and doing repair work for the church.
Wayne is survived by his wife Margaret of La Crescent; two sons, Steven (Cody) Husman of Winona, TX and Gregory (Connie) Husman of Yankton, S.D.; three grandchildren, Cheyenne, Jackson and Nycole Husman; two step grandchildren, Skyelar and Casey Alm; a step-great-grandson, Clayton; a nephew, Alan Gady and a niece, Sandra (Scott) Paetzel both of Winona, MN; two sisters-in-law, Edna Larson and Mildred Larson both of La Crosse along with numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Donald; sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette and Ira Gady; brother-in-law, Rev. Walter Larson and his parents-in-law, Walter and Esther Larson.
Two months before his death, Wayne was diagnosed with acute Leukemia and suffered many complications where a positive disposition of faith in God and church proved to be his greatest asset. Wayne was a kind, spirited person and very mild mannered. With a smile or a kind word he spread God’s love in the best way there is, with a gentle spirit and a generous heart. He was such a special person and appreciated so very much.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 6th at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 21 N. Hill Street, La Crescent with Rev. Michael Woods and Rev. Kent Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Prince of Peace Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church or Prince of Peace Lutheran Cemetery.
Wayne’s family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Undeland and Dr. Parson, the staff of the Infusion Department at Gundersen Clinic in La Crosse and the entire staff at Golden Living Center for their loving care and support.
