Elrose Nagle

August 17, 1924 — January 16, 2016

Elrose K. Nagle, 91, of La Crosse, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2016, at the Hillview Health Care Center surrounded by her family.
She was born in Caledonia, Minn., on August 17, 1924, to John and Elma (Wohlers) Murphy. She married Edward J. Nagle, Jr., on August 31, 1944, in La Crosse. He preceded her in death on May 16, 2005.
While Edward was in the service, Elrose worked at the Electric AutoLite plant in La Crosse until she became a homemaker and started raising her family. Once her family was raised, she was employed as a cook for the La Crosse School District before retiring.
Elrose was a loving wife and a devoted mother and grandmother who was a wonderful homemaker and an excellent cook. She always opened her home for others and there was always room for one more at the dinner table. She was active in many veterans organization auxiliaries including the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 52, Cabane 830, VFW Post 1530 Auxiliary, DAV Chapter 12 Auxiliary, the Ex POW’s Auxiliary and the 106th Infantry Auxiliary. In her free time, Elrose enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. Being a strong supporter of American Legion baseball, she always cheered on the team as the number one fan. Our mother, being the passionate cook she was, enjoyed looking through cookbooks, trying new recipes and sharing her favorites
She is survived by her ten children, Patricia (Gerald) Christianson of La Crosse, James Nagle of Onalaska, Donna Johnson of West Salem, Randy (Jeannette) Nagle of Onalaska, Cheryl Crawford of La Crosse, Barbara (Steve) Hoff of La Crescent, Debra (Dean) Seidel of La Crosse, Scott Nagle of La Crosse, Kerri Nagle of La Crosse, and Janet Bahr of Holmen; fourteen grandchildren, Todd (Laura) Johnson, Rachel Crawford, Jessie Nagle, Eric Nagle, Claire (Ashley) Sarazin, Mark (Anna) Nagle, John (Jenny) Nagle, Jason Johnson, Nathan Hoff, Ashley (Travis) Volden, Mandi Hoff, and Jennah, Jack and Jaycie Bahr; sixteen great-grandchildren; and four great, great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Francis Murphy of La Crosse; a sister-in-law, Arleen Skaife of Prairie du Chien; and nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, Elrose was also preceded in death by her parents; triplet sons, Kurt, Kent and Kevin; sister-in-law, Marge Murphy; sons-in-law, David Crawford and Floyd Johnson; and a daughter-in-law, Dee-Dee Nagle.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, January 21st, at North Presbyterian Church, 1327 North Salem Rd., La Crosse. Rev. Scott Skogen will officiate. Burial will follow in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park.
