Gladys Lenora Danielson

Gladys Lenora Danielson, 99 of La Crescent, MN, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2016. She was born on her maternal grandparents farm east of Spring Grove, MN, on March 25, 1916 the youngest of four children born to Hans and Sophia (Haugstad) Stigen. She attended rural schools and Spring Grove High School graduating after the eighth grade. Gladys lost both of her parents while in her teens and worked as a house maid and later as a nurses’ aide at the Spring Grove Hospital. In December of 1936 she married George Danielson and together they had one son Richard. During World War II the family moved to La Crosse and later to La Crescent, MN.
Gladys had been a homemaker during her married life until George’s accidental death in June of 1968 which left her widowed at the age of 52. She studied as a food service supervisor and dietician working at the then new La Crescent Nursing Home until her retirement.
In addition to her husband George and her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by her sisters Clara Ekker, Myrtle Thiele-Kroner, brother Orlando and nephew Gerald Ekker. She is survived by her son Richard (Mary) Danielson, grandsons Eric (Robin), Mike, Paul (Sarah); great grandchildren Devon, Alex, Sam, Madeline and Gabrielle Danielson.
The family would like to thank the staff and workers at Benedictine Manor for all the care and wonderful attention given to Gladys during her stay there.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Friday, January 15, 2016 at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services La Crescent chapel; 111 South Oak St. Pastor Mark Jolivette will officiate. Private burial will be in the Wilmington Cemetery. Friends may call on the family Friday morning at the funeral home from 10am until the time of services.
