John Edward Meier, 87, of La Crosse, died on Thursday, December 31, 2015, at Eagle Crest South Assisted Living. He was born April 19, 1928 in La Crosse, to John S. and Margaret (Bower) Meier.
John completed two years at La Crosse State after graduating in 1946 from Aquinas High School. He served in the U.S. Army Oct. 1950-Oct. 1952 and was a Korean War veteran. John lived and worked thirty-five years in the Chicago area, retiring from Rockwell Graphic Systems in 1990. After retirement, he spent a year in Chicago, taking in the museums and history, before moving back to La Crosse.
John is survived by his nieces, Nancy Wisowaty and Mary (Steve) Knutson both of La Crosse, nephews, Richard Moulis of Onalaska, and Joseph (Jackie) Moulis of Madison, great nephews, Robert (Erin) Wisowaty of Onalaska, Alex Knutson of La Crosse, and Michael Moulis of Madison, great nieces, Brenda (Ben) Wisowaty of Bangor, Alicia (John) Skiles, Abby Knutson both of La Crosse and Miranda Moulis of Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Joan O. Moulis, and niece, Kathleen L. Beyer.
We will miss John, a kind and generous man, who we will forever hold dear to our hearts.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral, in the Marian Chapel, 530 Main Street, La Crosse. Msgr. Charles Stoetzel will officiate. Family and friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the church. Burial with military honors by the Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52 will be held in the La Crosse Catholic Cemetery. The Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation Services of La Crosse is in charge of arrangements.
