Glen W. Jones, 73, of La Crosse, passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2015 in his home. He was born on November 2, 1942 in La Crosse to William and Marie (Schumacher) Jones. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s U.C.C. in La Crosse and graduated from La Crosse Central High School in 1960. He served in the U.S. Army from 1964 – 1970. On September 18, 1965 he married Nancy Puent at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in La Crosse, where he later became a member and has been for 49 years. On September 18, 2015 he and Nancy celebrated 50 years of marriage. In his early years Glen worked at Jack Robinson’s TV & Appliance Repair. He then worked at the La Crosse Fire Department from July 2, 1967 - December 25, 1995, retiring as assistant fire chief. Coincidentally he fought his last fire on his retirement date.
He was a member of American Legion Post 336 of Onalaska and the Fraternal Order of Eagles’ Aerie #1254 of La Crosse. He was a member of men’s golf leagues and bowling leagues. He loved to hunt and fish (both open water and ice). Together he and Nancy delivered Mobile Meals. Glen loved going to all the grandchildren’s concerts and sporting events.
He is survived by his wife Nancy, daughter Melissa (Andrew) Graff of Holmen, grandchildren Logan, Molly and Natalie Graff all of Holmen, brothers and sisters-in-law Thomas (Kathryn) Puent of Holmen and David (Sally) Puent of Pass Christian, MS, nephew Zach Puent, nieces Peggy Puent and Debbie Clark. He was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-in-law Elliott (Ellen) Puent and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorial services will be held at 12:30 PM on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 420 West Ave. S., La Crosse. Pastor Ted Dewald will officiate. Private burial will take place at a later date in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or the charity of donor’s choice. The Schumacher – Kish Funeral & Cremation Services, La Crosse Chapel is assisting the family.
