Anita M. Johnson, 77, of La Crosse, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side, on Thursday, December 17, 2015.
She was born on November 1, 1938 in La Crosse, WI to Arthur and Pearl(Reitan) Haugland. She graduated from Central High School in 1956. On February 23, 1957 she married Phillip Johnson in La Crosse.
Anita had worked as switchboard operator at the La Crosse Tribune and as a teller at both the Exchange State Bank and Batavian National Bank. She then owned and operated Nita’s Island Ceramics before becoming owner/manager of Johnson Rentals. She and Phillip loved spending time at their Winter home in Arizona. Anita also enjoyed shopping and spending time with her grandchildren. “Sweet Dreams Mom, We Love You.”
She is survived by her husband Phillip, a daughter Kerri (Roger) Piazza of La Crosse, a son Kevin (Geri) Johnson of Onalaska, grandchildren Tony Piazza, Angie (Kevin) Freeman, Justin and Katelyn Johnson, a brother David (Linda) Haugland of Sun City, AZ and a sister-in-law Sandra (Michael) Nelson of La Crosse. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at Olivet – Beacon of Light Lutheran Church, 2100 Bainbridge St., La Crosse. Pastor David Baldukas will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 10:30 AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Gundersen Lutheran Hospice and the Hematology/Oncology Department.
