John “Johnboy” M. Walton, 62, of La Crosse passed away Thursday December 10, 2015 peacefully at home. He was born November 7, 1953 in Green Bay, WI to George and Marcella Walton. He graduated from Aquinas High School in 1971. He proudly served our country in the US Navy, first on the USS Sterett, followed by Navy Honor Guard duty in Washington DC. Following his Navy career, he worked full time at G. Heileman Brewing Company while attending WWTI (Western) and graduating with Associates degrees in Computer Science and Marketing. Upon graduation, he began his career at Trane Company first in the computer support area, followed by several years in the CDS department, ending 32 years of employment in Coordinated Jobs doing pricing for many offices in the US.
He met Karen while working at Trane together. They were married on September 19, 1987 in Rochester MN. For the past 28 years, they enjoyed spending time with family, golfing, camping and traveling.
He was an avid golfer since the age of 13, Mom always new she could find him at Coulee Golf Bowl during the summer. Likewise, in later years, Karen always knew to find him at Cedar Creek Golf Course. He spent many years singing with the La Crosse Coulee Chordsmen where he made many lifelong friends. In his retirement years, he enjoyed geochaching and fishing with his grandchildren. He was an avid Green Bay Packer Fan, loved to voice his opinion on politics, listening to CCR, dashboard drumming and talk radio.
He is survived by his wife Karen, his children William (Sharon), Elizabeth (Kevin) Goodenough, Melanie and his beloved grandchildren Kaitlin, Nicholas and William and numerous extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Schumacher Kish Funeral Home; 200 West Ave S. Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of services. Private family burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the charity of your choice in John's memory.
