Luverne Docken, 98, of La Crescent, Minnesota, formerly of Maynard, Glenwood, Forest Lake, and Coon Rapids, Minnesota, and Hot Springs, Arkansas, died peacefully on November 30, 2015.
Luverne was born July 30, 1917, to Bernt and Melvina (Gjerde) Docken in Maynard, Minnesota. He graduated from Maynard High School and Dunwoody Technical Institute. He worked for Zenith Radio in Chicago before serving in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He and Evelyn Harguth were married in 1948. From 1955 to 1962 they owned the Dock-Inn Resort on Lake Reno in Glenwood. In 1963 they moved to Coon Rapids, Minnesota, and Luverne began his long career at Pillsbury. In retirement they enjoyed living in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and La Crescent, Minnesota.
Luverne was an avid fisherman and camper, a great dancer, and the life of any card party. He could fix or build almost anything and was generous in sharing his skills.
Luverne was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Evelyn; brothers Harry, Orien, and Roland; sisters Mildred, Bernie, Arleen, Ruth, and Aloris; and one great-grandchild.
He is survived by his sister, Evelyn Peterson of Bloomington, Minnesota; children Brad Docken of Rapid City, South Dakota, Reg Docken, Lisa Docken, and Doyle (Virginia) Docken of La Crescent; grandchildren Dana and Randy Docken, Jamie Muth, Ian and Blake Anderson, Teresa Green Muth, Becky and Scott Green; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation for friends and relatives will be held on Sunday, December 6, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home in La Crescent, 111 South Oak St. A memorial service will follow at 1:30 p.m. A private family burial will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.
