Virginia Marie Simmons, 92, of La Crosse, died on Friday, November 20, 2015 at the Hillview Health Care Center. She was born August 15, 1923 in Seattle, WA to Jorgen M. and Maria (Boeder) Simmons; adopted through baptism into God's family on September 14, 1923 in Tacoma, WA and confirmed on March 21, 1937 at St. Martin's Ev. Lutheran Church, Winona, MN.
She graduated from high school in Sioux City, IA; attended business schools in Jackson, MS and New Orleans, LA. For several years she worked as a secretary in the private sector in New Orleans and Minneapolis, and for nearly 30 years as secretary with the U.S. Government: with the IRS (Los Angeles and San Francisco); Bureau of Customs (San Francisco); and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Minneapolis). She retired on February 1, 1980, and with her mother, moved to La Crosse. She was a member of First Ev. Lutheran Church, La Crosse and its Ladies Aid Society.
She is survived by cousins and friends, and was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at the First Ev. Lutheran Church, La Crosse with Pastor Roger Sachs officiating. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of services. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, Tomah, WI. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to First Ev. Lutheran Church or Luther High School. The Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation Services of La Crosse are in charge of arrangements
