Jerome Arthur Kuntz died peacefully in his home with his family by his side, on November 15, 2015. Throughout his battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Jerry displayed incredible courage and strength and kept a positive attitude.
Jerry was born in Marinette, Wisconsin to George and Elsie (Goldsmith) Kuntz on June 28, 1932. After graduating from Marinette High School in 1951, he enlisted for four years in the US Navy and served with the Helicopter Utility Detachment in the Pacific. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in June of 1959. He married Ruth Ann Rasmussen on August 23, 1959 and they began their married life in La Crosse where they raised their family of three children. Jerry was a social worker with La Crosse County Human Services for 31 years before retiring in 1990.
Jerry was an active member of English Lutheran Church where he delivered Mobile Meals and ushered for many years. He was a lifelong Packer, Brewer, and Badger fan and enjoyed gardening, fishing and cooking, and most of all spending time with family. Jerry was a man of integrity with an easy going disposition, a caring heart, and a quick sense of humor. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend and will be deeply missed by his family and those who knew him best.
Jerry is survived by his wife Ruth Ann, three children, David (Lori) Kuntz of Covington, WA, Gretchen (Roger) Lowrey of Onalaska, and Andrew Kuntz of La Crosse, five grandchildren, Nicole and Jessica Kuntz, and Nathan, Nicholas and Samuel Lowrey, a sister, Mary Kirchner, a brother, William (Eunice) Kuntz, brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy (Jane) Rasmussen and Eunice (Adolf) Quast, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Walton Kuntz and a sister Gloria Rabe.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 11:30 AM at English Lutheran Church. Pastor Mark Solyst will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to English Lutheran Church and The ALS Association.
