Eric J. Karbula, 52 of La Crescent, MN, died unexpectedly on Sunday, November 8, 2015 in rural Houston County. He was born in La Crosse on February 19, 1963 to James J. and Lillian J. (Bess) Karbula. On August 8, 1987 he married Sarah Dopp and they later divorced.
Eric was a man who lived his life the way he wanted to. He was extremely successful in his 30 plus year career working in the grocery-produce industry, many of those as the manager. In 2012 he made the decision to attend Western Wisconsin Technical College and pursue his love of “playing in the dirt” by earning his associates degree in Landscape/Horticulture graduating with honors in 2014. After graduating, he was hired by Bauer’s Market of La Crescent, MN, where he truly found his calling as the Perennials manager and so much more. He loved being outdoors hunting or fishing, hanging out with his boys, and making memories with Nancee and her boys. He excelled at gardening, cooking, brewing beer, and making wine. He brought joy and laughter to his family. He truly lit up a room upon entering, and he leaves behind many who loved him.
He is survived by his two sons Zachary Karbula and Jacob Karbula both of La Crosse, his mother Lillian Karbula of La Crescent, one sister Karen (Al) Lopez of Junction, TX, one brother David (Jayne) Karbula of Waupun, WI, two nieces Megan Karbula and Shannon Jetton, two nephews Mike Jetton and Matt (Danielle) Karbula and his special friend Nancee Nelson of La Crosse and her boys.
Memorial services will be held at 6pm on Friday, November 13, 2015 at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services La Crescent chapel located at 111 South Oak St. Pastor Michael Hibbs will officiate. Private family burial will take place at a later date. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 4 until 6 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be used in Eric’s memory.
