Erma Jane Remlinger, 86, of Dresbach, MN, died on Sunday, October 25, 2015 in her home. She was born on March 23, 1929 in rural Hokah, MN to Harry and Esther (Mauer) Shawley. Erma graduated from Houston High School in 1947. She married Roland Remlinger on September 4, 1948 in Caledonia, MN. She had worked at the Auto-Lite, Sears Roebuck, Gateway Products, Valley High Country Club and Rush Products. Erma was a lifelong member of Riverside United Methodist Church, Dresbach/Dakota.
Erma was talented sketch artist and would entertain the children with paper dolls and cartoon doodles on any scrap of paper available. She enjoyed nature, taking pride in her well-tended vegetable garden, gathering wild flowers from the woods and roadsides, and feeding the birds and squirrels that flocked to her feeders. She found great pleasure collecting antiques and going to estate sales. She loved her family and would do whatever she could to help; including daily childcare for her grandchildren (nobody could care for them better than Grandma.) Erma will always be remembered for her baking skills, especially for her pies that she so generously shared with family, friends and co-workers. She was "The Pie Lady".
She is survived by three children, Bruce (Kathie Jo) Remlinger of Dresbach, Janice (Gary) Lanke of La Crescent, and Lori (James) Strom of Dakota, six grandchildren, Rebecca Peterson, Corey Remlinger, Stephanie Jefferis, Mika Metcalf, Lisa Lanke and Derek Strom, thirteen great-grandchildren, two sisters, Ella Rome and Patricia Miennert, a brother Bill Shawley, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Roland, her parents, and her brothers and sisters, Jim, Ortez, Rudolph, Martha, Susan, Esther, Maymie and Victor.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the La Crescent United Methodist Church. Pastor Greg Nelson and Pastor James Strom will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 9:00 AM until the time of services. Burial will take place immediately after the service followed by a luncheon in the church’s fellowship hall.
