Erie L. Hedgcoth

February 14, 1925 — September 20, 2015

Erie Hedgcoth, 90, passed away peacefully in his home at Brookdale Assisted living in Onalaska on Sunday September 20, 2015. Erie was born Feb 14, 1925 in Alba TX to Opal & Ples Hedgcoth. He lived in Texas, Arkansas & California until he was drafted into the Army at the age of 18 in 1943 during WWII. His 22 years in the Army included service in World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars. While still able he traveled to many annual Blackhorse Division 11th Armored Cavalry Reunions to reunite with many of his fellow Vietnam Vets. He was also able to attend several family reunions in Texas and enjoyed learning about his family history.
From his marriage to Ann he is survived by daughters, Laura Hedgcoth & Christine (Matthew) Wright, son Robert all of La Crosse and son Steven (Ken) Hedgcoth of Galesville, 3 grandchildren, Jana Boland, Elise Wright and Tamara (David) Korish and 4 great-grandchildren, and close family friend Elise Harnisch. From his first marriage he is survived by, daughters Elaine (Chuck) Pedigo, Judy (Eric) Peterson and son James (Wendy) Hedgcoth all of California, 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews, a sister LaVonia (Frank) Sterling of California, and sisters-in-law Mary (Curt) Walden and Gloria (John) Sherer. Erie was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years Ann (Sherer), a son Erie Hedgcoth Jr, a sister Marie (Jack) Winters, and brother-in-law John Sherer.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Barre Mills. Pastor Andrew Schultz will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in the Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation Services of Onalaska, 907 Sand Lake Road, on Tuesday from 4:00 – 7:00 PM and at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of services.
