Robert (Bob) F. Berg, 84, of Onalaska, passed away Sunday, September 13, 2015, at the Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, following a prolonged illness.

He was born May 14, 1931, in Janesville, Wis., to a hard-working man, Frank, and a caring woman, Elva. He married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Britt, on Feb 27, 1954, in Milton, Wis. He was a 1950 graduate of Janesville High School.

Bob worked in the bakery business most of his life starting with Colvin’s Bakery in Janesville, later owned by Gardner Baking Company of Madison, Wis., and Heileman Baking Company of La Crosse, Wis.; where he and Joyce relocated in 1979. After his “retirement” from the bakery, he spent 15 years working alongside Joyce as sales representative for L & L Foods of Verona, Wis. Bob was involved in both Janesville and La Crosse Boy Scouts for almost all his adult life and held the position of Gateway Area Council President for two terms. He was honored to receive the Silver Beaver Award from the Gateway Area Council. He also was a member of the Lions Club of Janesville, Wis., and a Good Will Ambassador for the Janesville Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include his wife of over 61 years, Joyce; five children, Robert Jr. (Gloria) Berg of Germantown Hills, Ill.; Steven (Sandra) Berg of Savage, Minn.; John (Dawn) Berg of Onalaska, Wis.; Susan (Todd) Fischer of Osseo, Wis.; Timothy (Kimberly)Berg of Onalaska; fourteen grandchildren – Corwyn, Jessica, Alexander (Robert); Nathan, Matthew (Steven); Shawn, Britt, Rayne (John); Trevor, Tommy, Lucas (Susan); and Andrew, Trenten, Avery (Timothy); brother-in-law, Donald Lezotte and family; very special family friend, Sally Friend; and Bob’s close friend, Howard Everson. He was preceded in death by Joseph Charles, his infant son; parents, Frank and Elva; and sister, Dolores Lezotte.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 18 th , at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1031 Main St., in Onalaska. Msgr. Delbert Malin will officiate. Burial will take place in Onalaska City Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 907 Sand Lake Rd., in Onalaska, where a rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m., and also from 10:00 a.m. until the time of mass on Friday at the church.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Gundersen Health System Foundation, directed towards the Hospice Program or Breast Cancer Research.
