Our son, Corey, went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, September 8, 2015. He died unexpectedly while doing yard maintenance for others.
Corey was born in La Crosse on February 2, 1979, to Larry and Cynthia (Grenawalt) Rockwell. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Onalaska where he had been a member since 3rd grade and attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Elementary School. He later graduated from Holmen High School in 1997. Corey’s faith in God was his strength.
In 2002, Corey married the love of his life, Shannon Sorensen. Shannon and Corey were blessed with three children, Austen (14), Presten (11), and Emmalee (9). They later divorced. He was employed by Kwik Trip as a driver for many years and was currently employed by Echo Bridge in La Crosse.
Corey was the “go to” person if you needed a job done. He was always there to help others and was always thinking of the needs of others before his own. He enjoyed playing cards, basketball, swimming and watching the Green Bay Packers.
Our son is survived by his three children, Austen, Presten and Emmalee; his parents, Larry and Cindy, of Brice Prairie; his three siblings, Carrie (Mark) Owen of Mindoro, Jenny (Erik) Wright of Holmen, and Matthew (Stephanie Olson) Rockwell of Tomah; and many nieces and nephews. He is further survived by his maternal grandparents, Gerald and Shirley Grenawalt of Holmen; special aunt, Jan Abrashinsky of Chetek; special uncle, Marvin (Mary) Rockwell of Onalaska; and many other aunts, uncles and cousins. Corey was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, George and Grace Rockwell; maternal grandmother, Darlene Grenawalt; baby nieces, Cassandra and Alyssa; baby nephew, Riley; uncles, Jim Abrashinsky and Ernie, Laverne and Rodger Rockwell; and aunt, Alma Rockwell.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, September 12th, at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 1201 Main St., Onalaska. Pastor William Bader will officiate. Burial will follow in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park, La Crosse. Family and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family and will be used for his children’s future needs. Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of Onalaska is assisting the family.
A special thank-you to Pastor William Bader for always being there for Corey. You were a great friend and mentor and will always be remembered.
Corey, God took you so quickly we didn’t get to say goodbye. Just know that we loved you so much and that you will be remembered for your generous heart, big smile and contagious laughter.
