Elaine I. Steele

Elaine I. Steele, 92, of La Crosse, died on Tuesday, September 8, 2015. She was born on January 28, 1923 in La Crosse to Otto and Bernice (Parr) Knothe. Elaine married Robert E. Steele on January 21, 1942 in La Crosse. He preceded her in death on August 13, 2001. She had worked for the Garment Company for many years. Elaine enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, gambling and trips to Hawaii. She was a volunteer at the Salvation Army, and loved being with her family.
She is survived by two daughters, Sandra (Donny Simpson) Veglahn and Sharon Van Riper, six grandchildren, Kim (Rick) Doyle, Kelly Veglahn, Kathy (Danny) Mangler, Kevin Van Riper, Jenny Hill and Tom Hill Jr., eleven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, a brother Earl Knothe of La Crosse and a son-in-law Tom Hill. In addition to her husband Robert she was preceded in death by two daughters, Sue Hill and Sheila Steele, a son Robert Steele Jr., two grandsons, Scott Hill and Ronald Van Riper Jr., a sister and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 11, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation Services of La Crosse. Pastor Robert Wassermann will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home of Friday from 10:00 am until the time of services.
